Paranormal Security & Intelligence Operative Duke Marlow has a new mission: find, interrogate, and possibly eliminate the target—Mercy Deluca. He knows looks can be deceiving, but it’s hard to believe the beautifully quirky woman running around in a superhero t-shirt is a viable threat. The sexy little biomedical engineer quickly proves she is more than he bargained for and Intel has it all wrong—she’s not the enemy. Far from it. Intel also forgot to mention one vital piece of information—she’s Duke’s mate. This immortal alpha werewolf doesn’t take kindly to her being in danger.

When Mercy accepted a position within The Corporation she thought it was to help cure disease and to make a difference for mankind. She had no idea what her new career path truly entailed—monsters masquerading under the guise of scientific research. Unable to stomach the atrocities she’s uncovered, she reaches out through what she hopes is the proper channels, asking for help. Mercy gets more than she bargains for when a team of paranormal hotties shows up on her doorstep ready to take down The Corporation. One, in particular, seems to be able to get under her skin, both aggravating her and exciting her in ways she can’t explain.

This is an adult 18+ story that contains language, possible violence, and sexual situations geared to an adult audience.

Title:  Act of Mercy
Series:  PSI Ops #1 (Immortal Ops Universe #6)

My Rating:  4.5 stars

Act of Mercy‘ begins the ‘PSI Ops‘ series part of the Immortal Ops Universe (which consists of several series all connected in some way).  There is a suggested reading order list both here and on the author’s website.  I’m reading this ‘Universe’ using that reading order list, and I have to say that it all makes so much more sense because this world is large with various ‘agencies’ within it and we will eventually meet a lot of people.  I happen to love that kind of series.  You can read these series by series, but I would suggest thinking about using the reading list – if you can.

The PSI Ops is another division of the group of agencies that deal with paranormals (good and evil).  Right now they’ve been handed an assignment that every man in this unit wants a part of.  One of their own went off the grid, for his own reasons, surfacing now and again… but James is thought to be captured right now and this could be the lead they’ve been searching for.  What one of these men didn’t expect was the reaction he had to the picture of the woman they were supposed to interrogate or eliminate – Duke was looking at his mate or at least every single sign that he was experiencing lead him to that conclusion.  Duke, the man no woman could ever hold down, Duke that guy who draws women in and moves on… yeah, he’s just found his mate and she might be the enemy.

Mercy took a tremendous risk by sending information to the group that Jimmy told her was safe and would rescue him, the others, and her as well.  She tried but nothing was happening – and it had to happen soon or Jimmy would be dead so she called – and got some jerk on the phone who didn’t know who he was dealing with, and if she ever got her hands on that idiot, he’d pay for ignoring her need for help.  Yeah, Mercy just spoke to her mate – and now life is about to get very interesting.

Act of Mercy‘ is intense, with sizzling sexy chemistry between Duke and Mercy.  It also is full of bantering, danger, vile villains, and unexpected surprises along the way.  The action is fast-paced, the brotherhood of the PSI Ops is deep and unique, and the banter between Mercy and Duke often had me cringing for Duke and cheering Mercy on as I laughed at their antics.

I had a blast with this story.  It was the one that made up my mind about going back to the beginning of the series and reading in the suggested reading order by the author.  It’s not a new story, but more people are being added to this universe and we’ll often see people we’ve met before.  Time doesn’t really matter to me, if it’s the first time I’m reading it, then it’s new to me.  The reviews on this are quite the range… but then we all have our likes and dislikes (it’s what makes us unique humans).  For me, the Immortal Ops Universe is fun, entertaining, sexy as sin, and full of dangerous actions with heroic responses to evil.  That is why I love this Universe.  If that’s the type of story you enjoy as well, then I’d definitely recommend all the stories and series within the ‘Immortal Ops Universe’.

I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.  But these series are coming out of KU in Nov. 2020 and will be available on all vendors at that time.
