Jane Donovan has been living a lie. Every day for the past ten years, she’s run from reality and the temptation that Tony Ramirez represents. But this year, Jane’s getaway is filled with more than just relaxation; there’s a dead man on her kitchen floor. Suddenly, keeping Tony away is the last thing Jane can do.

Tony Ramirez has wanted Jane for ten years. While she may not be his mate, the attraction is undeniable. When he can’t shake the feeling he needs to check on her, he decides to crash her vacation to ensure her safety. When he gets to her cabin, Jane is gone and nobody knows where she could be.

Finding out who the dead man is may be the least of their troubles when a pint-sized, pink-haired little girl who needs help suddenly makes an appearance. Unfortunately for Jane, the trouble with a small lie is that it grows with time. The truth may come to light before she’s ready. Now they have a murder, a child, a mystery, and the unwavering attraction to deal with.

Sexy shifters and their feisty mates who aren’t shy about loving each other – so, this is an adult, 18+ reader tale.

Read on for my thoughts on Unwanted Protector.

At times, characters do really stupid things – for the right reasons.  Now Jane did something foolish, impulsive and stupid when she met her mate, Tony.  They had one amazing, hot night together.  That was it.  But the only one who knows that is Jane.  Her unique ability has been able to hide the fact that she and Tony are mates for over ten years.  Now the truth is going to come out – and it’s not going to be pretty.

I enjoyed Unwanted Protector, yet it did throw a few curve balls at me along the way.  And unfortunately, I cannot get into too much detail about that or I will give away major spoilers to this story.  Eventually, I did understand better why Jane hide the connection she had with Tony – I don’t happen to agree with it but I did “get” it… especially after meeting Jane’s brother and his companion.

There are a lot of twists and unexpected turns in this story.  And I firmly believe you need to experience them for yourself.  Tony and Jane have worked together for a decade, each having an attraction for the other that was never truly acted upon.  When the truth comes out Tony’s reaction is believable and heartbreaking.  It’s up to Jame to make things right again.  She’s going to have to be braver than ever and stand up for her own right to happiness – with her mate.

Because of the eventual direction this story took I can say I did enjoy their romance, yet I didn’t love it and it left me feeling a bit… flat.  If that type of twist is going to be tossed in I would rather have had it hinted at throughout the series n order to prepare my mind for it.  That’s my feeling, you may not agree.  Nonetheless, it is an entertaining story that I’m certain you would enjoy with an open mind.

I read this story through my Kindle Unlimited subscription. For ten dollars a month you get access to thousands of really great stories across all genre and the author gets paid for you reading the story through to the 100% mark. It’s a win-win. Probably the best 10 bucks I spend a month.

Available for the Kindle (yes the book has a different cover now)
