Lion’s Lynx by Zoe Chant

Lynn Davidson has never had a real relationship. Working as a guide in the wilds of Glacier National Park doesn’t bring on the men. And being a middle-aged, no-nonsense outdoors-woman in hiking boots and a utility vest is the nail in the dating coffin. Besides, Lynn knows what happens when people get close: they leave. It’s better to stay independent and alone…even when temptation drops right into your lap. Right?

Lion shifter and Marine vet Ken Turner has his eye on the prize: his job. As an environmental scientist, scoring an assignment to Glacier Park is a big deal. All Ken wants is to have space to roam, and work to protect the wilderness he loves. Romance is the last thing on his mind–until he sees Lynn, and everything else falls away.

Neither Ken nor Lynn ever thought they’d find their mate, but together they’re caught up in a storm of love, desire, and protectiveness. But can Lynn overcome her fear and accept that love doesn’t always lead to heartbreak? And what happens when a hostile pack and a family crisis threaten their newfound home together?

Sexy shifters and their feisty mates who aren’t shy about loving each other – so, this is an adult, 18+ reader tale.

Title:  Lion’s Lynx
Series:  Veteran Shifters #2

My Rating:  4.5 stars

Even though Lion’s Lynx is only the second story in this spin-off series from Glacier Leopards, I’m really enjoying the dynamics of the new characters and keeping caught up on old friends as well.  When Cal’s friend makes a request to be able to do some soil testing, some environmental digging in the National Park no one thought that another romance was on the way… that was until Ken and Lynn first met in Cal’s office and at least Cal got what was happening there.

Lynn is a no-nonsense type of person, she knows her strengths, isn’t afraid of anything and has long accepted that having a mate as part of her life wasn’t going to happen for her… and that’s okay, she didn’t need anyone else cluttering up her life.  Or so she thought until Ken and then those romantic notions didn’t seem so foolish anymore.  All of her life the mountains and forest of Glacier were enough for Lynn, she knew them better than her own hand and her growing guide business proved that.  She never thought she’d want more, until she did with one lion shifter at her side.

Ken could have never guessed that heading up this environmental testing assignment would bring him into his mate’s life.  In fact, he hadn’t believed there was a mate out there somewhere just for him.  The bloom of youth was certainly off of both he and his lion, but fate works when it wants and it seems that Lynn has been by herself as well.  She is perfect for him, they definitely counterbalance each other with her serious side and his “make ’em laugh” attitude.  Yet when Lynn’s sister and niece are in danger Ken gets an up close experience of what finding his mate truly means.  She’s family.  It’s really that simple and anyone that is family to Lynn is also  his.  So when a pack of sleazy wolf shifters think they can mess with his family, Ken goes in to teach a few lessons – and calls in recruits for additional help.  No one messes with his family.

I had such fun with Lion’s Lynx.  Lynn is brash, needs no one and really sees no point in trusting in the reality of a mate.  Watching her soften those rough edges and let Ken in to her life was an enjoyable experience.  Ken is a man who knows how to use humor to defuse a situation, not to hide behind but to allow others to see what’s in front of their face without confrontation.  Oh, he’s not afraid to get up in someone’s face, but Lynn deserves to learn that it’s okay to be afraid, but better to be afraid together.  I would highly recommend this story and series to any Paranormal Romance or Shifter Romance reader.  I cannot wait to get my hands on the next story in Veteran Shifters.
