As the only female member of King Security International’s field team, Eden of Clan Dagaz has always been treated like ‘one of the guys’. Secretly, Eden reads romance novels to escape to a ‘Happily Ever After’ that she’s convinced will never happen for her. Assigned to guard a comatose patient, Eden finds her predictable future changing in ways she never expected as the patient becomes the most important person in her life.

Kellan Huntley is a money guy, but he doesn’t work for just anyone. As one of the only humans working on Clan Odal’s accounts, Kellan has made them millions of dollars—the only problem, 15 million has gone missing from the Clan accounts and Kellan is in no position to defend himself.

Despite the evidence being stacked against him, Eden is convinced that Kellan is innocent. She’ll do everything in her power to protect him from the Clan he serves and see that justice is done. But there’s something larger, and much more dangerous, lurking in the shadows that could tear the Kindred world apart.

Kellan’s survival and Eden’s future depends on discovering exactly who is behind this attack on a powerful Clan, and what it could mean for humans and Kindred alike.

This is an adult, 18+ reader tale.  It contains language and sexual situations geared toward an adult audience.

My Rating:  4.5 stars

What we’ve seen of Eden so far proves she’s definitely a kick butt and take names person.  She’s one of the best at what she does, even when her strong personality and sense of what’s right gets her removed, at least temporarily, from her bodyguarding of pop star, Bliss.  Call it luck or call it fate, but her next assignment, which is to guard a suspected thief who is currently in a coma will bring her face to face with her destiny.  And then she’ll get around to that kicking butts and taking names part.

Eden and Kellan fit together.  He’s a bit unbalanced, emotionally and in the pride department, by being told he’s Eden’s mate.  As a human… and as a guy… he’s programmed to believe that he’s the protector, the provider – and right now he’s in a heap of trouble with only his mate and her agency on his side.  He knows he couldn’t have, would never have stolen from the Clan — but all evidence points to him on the surface.  “Unexpected Bride” provides an intriguing mystery to solve, and a chance to see Eden fall, to see her softer side as she hears her mating call.  I would say that this is a pivotal story in the series for there are threads woven here that appear to move on to the rest of the series.  We get answers… but also so many more questions in Eden and Kellan’s romance that will be dealt with as the series moves along.

I liked the reality of the various decisions that Eden and Kellan now have to make.  Just because the mating call sounded that doesn’t mean that the realities of life, work, and where to live just magically are solved.  And we once again get to visit Cora’s closet with a new member of that exclusive club.   I had a great time stepping back into this world again, and I’m definitely on the lookout for the next in this series to release.
