An ice dragon who will make you melt…

As a scientist, Talia Reed is used to things just making sense. So when a large sample of ice sent to her lab happens to be carrying a centuries-old Siberian man who claims to be the lord of winter, everything in her life is turned upside down. Alek’s tall, handsome, protective… and totally shouldn’t be alive. But somehow, even though he’s the one who was frozen, she’s the one who’s beginning to warm up!

Alek, lord of winter, has huge gaps in his memory and no ability to access the ice dragon powers that made him a force to be feared. But he does know he always goes after what he wants with the force of a winter storm, and right now that’s scientist Talia Reed, the tiny human woman who awakened him. His heart has been drawn to her from the moment they met, and he isn’t going to let anything, past or present, stand in the way of claiming her for his own!

As Alek and Talia spend time together, things get steamy enough to melt snow. But Talia is torn about having feelings for a scientific sample, and Alek is trying to figure out the key to unlocking his powers to rule the modern world. And in the meantime, secrets are lurking beneath the ice of Alek’s past, threatening to break through and destroy everything he holds dear…

This is an adult, 18+ story, it contains language, possible violence and sexual situations geared to an adult audience.

Title:  Lord of Winter
Series:  Frozen Dragons #1
Author:  Terry Bolryder
Published:  January 21, 2019
My Rating:  4.5 stars

LORD OF WINTER is the first story in Terry Bolryder’s series Frozen Dragons – at this point, it shows no connection to her other dragon series — however, with dragons you just never know so we’ll wait and see what develops over the rest of the series.

This one has a slightly different feel to it for me since Alek, Luka and Dimitri have no idea how they’ve survived being encased in blocks of frozen solid ice… and yet have emerged from the ice quite well except for their memories perhaps.  Our heroes are hundreds of years old, and they have absolutely no clue what this modern world is all about.

When we first meet Alek he is every bit as arrogant, conceited and full of himself as one would expect the “Lord of Winter” to be.  He softens as he must learn about this new world he’s found himself in — and as he gets to know and care for Talia.  It didn’t take long for a softer, kinder Alek to emerge, and I liked that man very much.  Talia is between a rock and a hard place.  The most astounding discovery came to life in front of her eyes, but this man also has feelings, desires, and rights.  As much as her mentor might believe that he’s nothing more than a specimen bound for the secret labs and the talk circuits the reality is that he and his friends are living breathing beings who deserve so much more than to be oddities for the remainder of their lives.

My heart broke for Alek when his memory returned and he remembered exactly how he and his companions became encased in ice.  Just. Simply. Broke.

LORD OF WINTER is full of richly drawn characters, an intriguing plot, definitely steamy sexy times. and a group of people that you’ll want to get to know more about.  Alek and Talia worked so well together, realist and believable… for their circumstances.  I enjoyed their story very much and can’t wait to get started on the next book.  If you love Shifter Romance then you’ll love the start of this new series – I’d definitely recommend this one.
