She stole my wallet–and my heart.

Dragon-kind is all but extinct. My mission is simple—protect the survivors of the Therion Tribunal’s assault.

After centuries of searching, I’ve finally located the weapon that could shift the balance of power. This is the battle I’ve waited for my entire life. I’m ready to do what I must, whatever it takes.

But then she walks into my life. I know that Mia is my enemy. I know I shouldn’t let her in. Still, I find myself drawn to her. She is impossible to ignore, impossible to deny. She challenges me and stirs desires long suppressed. Being close to her allows me to hope, to feel. I can’t afford to give in.

And yet even if I wanted to, even when my mission depends on it—I can’t let her go.

Rebel Heart by Anna Lowe

Posted November 5, 2018 by Marsha in Shifter Connected, Shifter Series / 0 Comments

Uptown girl meets rough-and-tumble biker — with a shapeshifter twist!

All Cynthia was planning for the weekend was a quick escape to the countryside where her inner dragon can stretch its wings. She wasn’t counting on a handsome, enigmatic wolf shifter coming along and sweeping her off her feet. Cynthia has always been driven by duty rather than desire. But suddenly, she finds herself making reckless, irresponsible choices and telling herself, Just this once…

A night of sizzling passion ensues, but the question remains. Is Cal to blame for making her throw caution to the wind — or is it destiny?

This short story prequel reveals Cynthia’s backstory and sets the stage for her second chance at love, a story told in Rebel Alpha (Aloha Shifters: Pearls of Desire, Book 5). It takes place a decade before she comes to Maui after many cruel twists of fate.

Sexy shifters and their feisty mates who aren’t shy about loving each other- in other words, there’s going to be sex involved in this story – so, this is an adult, 18+ reader tale.

Titles in the Aloha Shifters: Pearls of Desire series include:  (#1) Rebel Dragon – (#2) Rebel Bear – (#3 )Rebel Lion – (#4) Rebel Wolf –  Rebel Heart (prequel of Cynthia’s backstory) – (#5) Rebel Alpha

The Pearls of Desire series connects to Jewels of the Heart in many ways – location, recurring characters from the Jewels series so in some ways  I’d suggest reading the Jewels of the Heart series first (if you haven’t already)… it’s just a suggestion but I think it would really fill in all the spots of this unique world… plus they’re amazing stories that you shouldn’t miss.  In my opinion, of course.  All of the Jewels of the Heart titles,as well as the Pearls of Desire titles and more  can be found on the Anna Lowe page.

Beck Bear by T. S. Joyce

Posted October 18, 2018 by Marsha in Shifter Connected, Shifter Series / 0 Comments

Juno Beck is trying to step out from the long shadow of her father and make her place in the music industry. But this bear shifter’s days are numbered and she’s running out of time to make her mark on the world. When she stops for a day trip to visit an old friend, she discovers the hiding place of one of country music’s bad-boys-who-got-away. But everything she thought she knew about Rhett Copeland from interviews is wrong, and he’s hiding a mountain of secrets. And as she struggles with the decision to do what’s right or what’s necessary, she begins discovering who she really is, and what she really stands for. And that singer she’s crushed on for all these years, is about to show her how it really is to live.

Rhett Copeland threw away his destiny. The white lion shifter left his Pride to become a touring musician, but something important has sent him into hiding in a last-chance Crew of lumberjacks. His accounts are frozen, his muse is crippled, his fans are on the hunt for him, and his new Rogue Pride Crew gets on his nerves at every turn. All he wants to do is stay hidden, avoid as much logging work as possible, and pester his new Crew, but Juno Beck is going to expose him and all of his secrets to the public if he isn’t careful. Too bad she’s too interesting for her own good because his songwriting muse only wakes up around her, and now he can’t leave the mesmerizing stranger alone. But the more he lets Juno in, the more she threatens the life he’s carved out here in the wilderness of Rogue Pride territory.

He has nothing but time, and she barely has any days left. He has lost his passion for the music, while she’s more driven than ever to make her mark on the industry. Lions and mole rats and bears, oh my! Two worlds collide in T. S. Joyce’s second installment of the Daughters of Beasts series.

Do You Form An Emotional Bond With The People In A Book?

Posted October 15, 2018 by Marsha in Shifter / 0 Comments

I just finished a pretty amazing book.  One where I’ve known the main character’s family, her father, her mother, her uncles and close friends for a long time now.  I have a bond with that character unlike any other.  Why?  Because the author made her and her entire family come alive for me over time until I know them almost as well as my own family.

Readers, bloggers… we kinda joke about book boyfriends, or book friends but there is probably more truth than joke to those statements, even if we’d rarely admit it.

Shifter romance is a genre that I don’t ever see myself growing tired of.  And, no, it’s not the hot, sexy Alpha males or the flaming sex scenes… although they have their enjoyment factor.  It’s really that I don’t find that type of attachment to the characters that I feel toward a Shifter couple as compared to any other genre.  I think there are a couple reasons (aside from the hot sexy stuff) that I feel that way.

I like the idea of fate stepping in, of knowing that there is one perfect for me person out there somewhere who is also searching.  I enjoy seeing a character say screw you to our society and fall in love with someone that might not be seen as “perfect” enough – that actually makes my day quite often.  The sense of belonging to a larger group of people who share a deep bond, a unified front, a history is also a strong point for Shifter romance.

But most of all… I enjoy reading a story that can touch my emotions, make me mad, sad, angry, giddy, nervous and just plain happy.  A story where with a few words I’m reminded of another story with familiar faces and there is a sense of reliving that story over again as I remember – her father, his sister, their cousin, their pack mate.  There’s a connection that flows through long series, connecting series that gives me a full circle look around the people within that universe.  A connection.  One that I rarely find in any other genre.  Oh, I can think of two offhand – but two compared to the hundreds of Shifter romances I’ve read and connected with is a bit lopsided don’t you think?

I understand that not every reader enjoys or even ‘gets’ Paranormal Romance.  You do have to stretch your imagination to envision a man’s body changing shape from human to wolf or bear or lion.  Yet, I make that transition very easily now, in a way the Shifter’s worlds have become my own because I accept them for exactly what they are… amazing flights of imagination that I love getting caught up in.

So to answer my own question:  “Do You Form An Emotional Bond With The People In A Book?” the simple answer is… Yes.  When I can cry real tears, when a scene will linger in my mind long after I’ve read on from it, when finding justice for a wrong is just as important to me as it is to the character… then yes, I do bond emotionally with the characters I’m reading about.  Like today – when the main character went back home and the scene was familiar, and the faces she saw were definitely loved and that sense of finally coming home was felt through the screen of my Kindle… then yes, yes I do connect — and when I stop connecting that is when I need to shut down the Kindle for the last time.
